Trying To Lose Weight? Read A Weight Loss Blog!

As someone who is trying to lose weight, I love reading weight loss success stories. Hearing about other people's weight loss journies and workout tips inspires me to keep going with my own weight loss journey.

I especially like reading weight loss blogs. When you read about someone's weight loss in a magazine, you're only getting a small part of the picture. You're getting the basics in maybe 500 words or so, and when someone's weight loss is written about in that way, it can make it look easy -- which it certainly isn't.

When you read a weight loss blog, though, you get the whole story. You get to follow that person day by day, sometimes for years as that person battles various obstacles to lose the pounds. It's a much more realistic representation of weight loss and when you become so emotionally involved, you want to cheer the author on!

Reading other people's weight loss blogs has definitely inspired me in my own weight loss. That said, here are some of my favorite blogs. Not every writer listed has met his or her goal weight yet, but their witty writing and strong spirits make me want to keep checking back in to see how they're doing -- and have encouraged me to improve my nutrition and fitness.

10 Inspirational Weight Loss Blogs

1. Escape From Obesity: So far, Lyn, the author of this blog has lost close to 100 pounds! A 40something mother of several kids, her weight has gone up and down and she's finally found success with the Medifast plan. Regardless of whether you like or dislike this plan, though, she never pushes it on her readers and conveys her weight loss tale in well-written, thought provoking posts. She not only documents her weight loss, but reveals WHY she believes she gained the weight and what she's going through physically and emotionally as she loses it. Through her writings, you realize that it's not only losing the weight that's difficult, but adjusting to a new body, as well.

2. Pasta Queen: Jennette Fulda documents her weight loss of close to 200 pounds in revealing and often hilarious blog entries. She also wrote the book Half Assed about her weight loss journey, but I personally prefer reading her blog to get her take on everything from food to cats to moving to a new town. Over the years that she's been writing in her blog, Fulda has not only battled losing weight, but has also had to contend wth terrible headaches; yet, she's fought for her life, along the way becoming a freelancer and moving across the country to get a new start.

3. The Amazing Adventures Of DietGirl: Shauna Reid has been writing in her blog for almost a decade! Along the way she's also shed about 200 pounds, moved from Australia to Scotland and has gotten married. Her memoir, which has the same title as her blog, reads almost like a fairy tale as she goes from depressed overweight woman to a confident and slender young lady living overseas. Still, she's very honest in her blog about the troubles that she still deals with: her ongoing depression, the struggle to maintain her weight. All of this is done, though, with her cheeky sense of humor.

4. Journeying To Lose 200 Pounds: The Triumph Of Perseverence: Reading this blog might be frustrating for some because the writer hasn't lost a lot of weight ... yet. In fact, she gained quite a bit along the way. But readers who stick with her are sure to empathize (especially if your weight has gone up and down) and be inspired by her spirit and never-give-up attitude, as well as her cheerful, well-written posts. You can't help but cheer her on and share her faith that she will eventually succeed in her weight loss.

5. Token Fat Girl: So far, this blogger, Lorrie, has lost about 50 pounds, getting her out of the 300s and into the 200s. Along the way, she's gotten married, moved into a new home and has set her up own online jewelry store. In addition to talking about her weight loss, she offers fashion tips for plus-sized women. I love that she's very much about looking good NOW as opposed to waiting until she hits her "magic" number on the scale.

6. The Anti-Jared: This blogger lost over 100 pounds rather quickly and without weight loss surgery. He simply started working out at the gym nearly every day and drastically changed his eating habits. Despite the fact that his weight loss looks "easy," his posts show how much hard work he's put into being fit and how staying in shape is a full-time lifestyle change.

7. 101 Reasons I Hate Being Fat: As this author loses weight, she gives a very realistic picture of what it's like for a larger person to exist in today's society.

8. Jack Sh*t Getting Fit: Jack's sense of humor is apparent in his blog title alone, but when it comes to losing weight, he's not joking. So far, he's lost about 80 pounds and has the impressive before and after pictures to prove it. His lively posts make you want to join him on his weight loss quest and adapt a healthier lifestyle of your own.

9. Hollie's Weight Loss Blog: Hollie's weight has gone up and down, but she's had more losses than gains, but along the way, she got a new career as a teacher and a healthier lifestyle. Though she hasn't yet reached her goal weight, she hasn't given up; her enthusiasm makes you root for her to keep going.

10. Loretta's Journey from 460 to 199: So far, Loretta has lost a very impressive 130 pounds! Her motto is "No excuses," and it's paying off big time as she finally sheds her weight and embarks on a healhier lifestyle.
